1.   Summary

This product bulletin announces the availability of Professional Services for the implementation of V-Series systems.

Currently, the installation service that is bundled with SupportEdge Premium covers only the installation of the V-Series controller purchased from NetApp. This implementation service extends the service offering to include the planning and testing of the back-end Fibre Channel switch and storage arrays connected to a V-Series system and complete the creation of a working system. The actual configuration of the switches and arrays must be done by either the customer or the vendor that sold these devices; NetApp does not take responsibility for other companies’ products. The implementation service covers the planning of these configurations, and the testing of all the pieces together, to ensure  that LUNs, paths, and ports have all been connected properly.

2.   What’s New

V-Series Implementation Service is a new product. The key value propositions are:

·           The service simplifies the process of creating a working V-Series system.

·           NetApp-trained Professional Services (PS) personnel aid the customer in designing and testing a complete configuration.

·           PS involvement increases customer satisfaction by decreasing the number of service calls related to misconfiguration of the SAN infrastructure.

·           Application of NetApp best practices to the planning and implementation provides a more robust integration of the V-Series system into the customer’s SAN environment.

Installation by Network Appliance of each V-Series system (available in SupportEdge Premium or Choice) is a prerequisite for delivery of the implementation service. Basic installation ensures that the hardware and software are working properly.

The implementation service is an additional service that involves making the V-Series systems ready for production use, by planning and testing the configuration of the customer’s back-end storage arrays and switches connected to the V-Series system through a SAN. The service includes:

o        Planning the back-end setup tasks that are needed to connect the V-Series system to the storage array, including cabling, zoning, host groups, LUN creation and setup, and RAID group creation and setup.

o        Testing and verification that the implementation has been completed in accordance with the plan, and documentation of the implemented configuration for the customer.

The actual configuration of switches and storage arrays from other vendors, according to the plan, is the responsibility of the customer and those vendors.

This service will be sold with the following levels of implementation:

o          Fixed price for up to 5 terabytes of storage connected to V-Series systems

o          Fixed price for 5 to 60 terabytes of storage connected to V-Series systems

o          Custom Statement of Work (SOW) for over 60 terabytes of storage

The implementation service complements  the front-end rapid deployment services offered for configuring block and file services to host servers and the installation services bundled with SupportEdge Premium, as shown in the following figure.

6.   Product Information

V-Series implementation requires V-Series installation (available in SupportEdge Premium or Choice) as a prerequisite. The implementation service is offered for three levels of system complexity:

o        Fixed price for configurations with less than 5TB of storage

o        Fixed price for configurations with  5 to 60TB

o        Statement of Work for configurations with over 60TB
